Discipline is this buzzword nowadays. With ex-Navy SEALs talking about the massive amounts of discipline it takes to become successful in life. It can all be daunting. From waking up early, training every single day, and working hard every single minute to get to your goals. Not allowing any weakness to take you off the path to success. I know you’re out there. Those that think what these hyper-aggressive men and women are saying is total rubbish, but I am here to say it is not.
These people are hard chargers. They know how to get after it. They’re successful for a reason, and it isn’t because they happened to have it handed to them. They had to work hard for what they got. They had to sweat, bleed, cry, and grind for the success they have. There is no secret to becoming a champion, becoming rich, or becoming a success.
It is fundamentally simple. You find your passion, and apply a mitigated discipline in all things day in and day out. That is where success is born. In the moments where you do not feel like doing something, but you do it anyway because you know the benefits will be when the task is completed. Let’s run down what discipline is exactly and how you can start implementing it into your lives.
What Is Discipline
Discipline is often considered to be a measure used to punish or chastise a child. However, when I think if discipline it is, in fact, the self-discipline that is most important. It is an aspect of humanity that is often left to the wayside. Discipline is having the will to do things daily that not only ensure a continued improvement of life but also keeps those who apply it on the straight and narrow.
Discipline can be said to be the adherence to a set of principles and rules that you lay out for yourself. Deciding to never or rarely sway away from those principles. That would be the most basic of definition I could give.
Why Is It Important
You can always tell when someone is lacking discipline. They are sloppy, they sleep in, they are lacking the energy to do anything. I am not trying to paint an everyone with a broad brush but it is true. Self-discipline is that drives you to do the things you may not want to do. To stick to a certain routine every day to keep yourself in check. Daily hygiene, work ethic, and fitness are all three examples of daily life activities that are greatly improved with the application of discipline.
Those that are not disciplined in these basic daily life tasks tend to have a problem with progress. They are generally lazy or lethargic. They are missing something. Something that helps guide them in the right direction. An intangible to keeps them going every single day. Something that forces them to do something they may not want to do but do it anyways. That’s how you win in this life.
What To Do To Implement It
Discipline is not something that you just wake up one day and all of the sudden have it. It is something that needs to be practiced. It is simple to implement but very difficult to stick with. Here are a few ways you can slowly add some discipline into your daily life.
- Wake up early
- Go to bed early
- Workout every day
- Find hard things to do
- If you find yourself not wanting to do something, GO DO IT
- Think “How you do one thing, is how you do everything”
- Take pride
Conclusion
Adding discipline into your life will free you from thought, and free you from being worried. Having a set routine and principles that you adhere to every single day will keep you on the path to success but it will also free up valuable time that you spent thinking and worrying about things that were trivial. Find out what you want to do with your life. How you want to apply discipline and then go out there and get after it.
