Sports are not just for athletes; it is for everyone.
There are two opposite personalities in the world. Don’t you wonder how they will fare in the world of sports? We have the extroverts and the introverts.
What is a Sport?
Sport or sports include all forms of competitive physical activity or games which, through casual or organized participation, aim to use, maintain or improve physical ability and skills while providing enjoyment to participants, and in some cases, entertainment for spectators.
What is Extrovert?
Extroverts tend to enjoy being around people and love to attend social gatherings. Hence, an extroverted person is likely to experience time spent with people and find less reward in time spent alone.
Extroverts are people who actively participate and collaborate with others. They are very comfortable engaging in activities that involve others. They are very outgoing, enthusiastic, energetic, talkative and assertive.
What is Introvert?
Introverts are geared to sit back and watch rather than to engage in social gatherings. A large social setting, introverts tend to be quiet, low-key, shy and disengaged. Typical introverts are closed and distant. They hold feelings under control from everybody except trusted friends and family members who make them feel secure.
Any interaction with other people becomes a challenge for introverts, that is why they also spend most of their time in their comfort zone together with people they feel safe with – at home with their family. Furthermore, it is evident that they prefer to be alone in quietness and undisturbed environment.
However, that doesn’t mean that they do not want to interact and socialize with others all the time. Introverts also have goals to achieve and missions to accomplish.
Sports Participation
When it comes to sports, we can surmise that extroverts can play well and are more proactive than introverts. However, some introverts engage in sports too.
The only dilemma is that compared to extroverts, they are not very willing to actively participate in such activities. Sometimes introverts are considered as passive participants. So the question is what kind of sports the introverts can get involved?
Team Sports
Team sports are sports that involve teams. Meaning, there must be collaboration and interaction with every member. Players in team sports are organized in opposing teams which compete to win. Some examples of team sports are basketball, volleyball, water polo, baseball, and the various forms of football and hockey.
Remember that introverts usually avoid social interaction. And from that, we may say that team sport like basketball is not for them. They have to interact with their teammates, as well as with the members of the opposing team and that will be awkward in the part of the introverts.
Thus the best options for introverts are individual sports. In this category, individuals, rather than teams, are the participants.
Individual Sports
This category of sports is ideal for introverts who wanted to be sporty but are very shy and does not enjoy having a companion. Some examples of individual sports are as follows:
- tennis
- freestyle soccer
- lifting
- track and field
- golf
- boxing
- swimming
- bowling
- wrestling
- power-lifting
- figure skating
- diving
- mixed martial arts
- table tennis
- badminton
- archery
- and cycling
Since there are plenty of individual sports that an introvert can choose from, they encourage family involvement. Your child is not the only one who will benefit from participation in different sports. It promotes family involvement. Parents and siblings can attend games, thus providing a bonding opportunity for the whole family.
Sports also provides consistent exercise, which helps boost immunity and contributes to overall physical health. An introverted person can build confidence, and gain an understanding of a winner and loser’s perspective. When playing a sport, whether you are an introvert or not, you have the opportunity to show their skills and sports powers.
Cycling
Cycling is a competitive physical activity using bicycles. It can also be a recreational activity. Cycling is a good sport for an introvert as the bike will serve as the only company of the cyclist. They can do biking alone or with some of their trusted friends.
Besides, cycling lets an introverted individual enjoy for themselves. Moreover, they will be able to appreciate their surroundings more and can help them to be more comfortable getting outside.
There are several categories of cycling, including road bicycle racing, time trialing, cyclo-cross and mountain bike racing.
Meanwhile, another sport an introvert can engage in is tennis. It is an individual or sometimes dual sports racket.
Introverted individuals can practice this sport all by themselves. They can face a wall and hit the ball towards that wall. This is ideal for introverts who prefer minimal interaction with a large number of people.
There are a lot of sports that an introvert can get into like hiking, swimming, badminton, and golf. These sports can help these people to live their life to their fullest and gain their self-confidence and trust other people.
Conclusion
We must bear in our mind that we should respect them for what they are. Thus, we must accept that every individual is different from one another. Indeed, all humans we are beautifully unique in our way.
Finally, all we can do is to cheer for them, support them and let them enjoy the sport they have chosen. Besides, it’s high time that we work hand in hand in designing a positive environment. Influencing all areas of development: be it physical, be it social, be it emotional, and be it in sports.
Sports is for everyone -for the extroverts and the introverts as well!
