Are we stretching the truth about stretching? Stretching is important for a number of reasons. it is not an uncommon thing to feel rigid first thing in the morning, and not as mobile as you usually are. That happens because your heart rate slows down, and since the blood flow to your muscles is not in the same amount, you do not have oxygen-rich blood flow. Furthermore, muscles stiffen up. Stretching prevents wear and tear on the joints. For the people who are very lax, working on strength and flexibility compensate for that laxity by building strength. And people who are very strong and stiff need to work a little bit more on their mobility. Professional athletes may have other professional considerations, that require them to have a more limited range of motion cause they need power and explosivity. Hence, here are the top 5 reasons why stretching is important:

Prevents Injuries

You can benefit from stretching to avoid injuries related to having a low range of motion muscle compliance. Many people do not know that muscle type influences flexibility. If you are flexible, you are less likely to strain or sprain something because your range of motion is greater, so you will not overextend and cause an injury.

Increases Circulation

Stretching increases blood flow to your muscles which means increased circulation. By increasing the blood flow, stretching helps reduce post-workout soreness and helps shorten recovery time. Moreover, it improves overall health. With great blood circulation comes cell growth and better organ function. The heart rate will also lower considering it does not have to work as hard and blood pressure will become more balanced and consistent.

Increases Range Of Motion

If you need mobility work, stretching is your go-to exercise. Routinely stretching will improve one’s mobility and range of motion. It has the benefit of increasing flexibility, which is something that almost everyone needs, not just the athletes. Our bodies are able to do much more and be much more than what we believe. They are capable of doing unimaginable things and moreover, bodies carry incredible power. With increasing range of motion, you will be able to do things you thought you were incapable of.

Helps Improve Posture

Nowadays, good posture is something we should admire. Stretching helps ensure that correct posture by lengthening tense muscles which pull areas of the body away from their intended position. Including keeping your muscles loose. With the stretching of the lower back muscles, chest, and shoulders not only does the spine get in a better alignment but also the overall posture as well by relieving aches and pains. With reduced pain, there is a reduced desire to thrust.

Boosts Energy

When you get up and you stretch you feel instantaneously better. Stretching releases millions of blood cells back into circulation, giving you a boost of energy and clearing your mind. Instant gratification right then and there. Sometimes you may struggle to stay awake during your long, dragging day. What makes us feel even more lethargic is muscles tightening when we get tired. To help your mind and body be more alert, get out of your seat and do a few good stretches, it will quickly and efficiently revitalize your energy levels.
