What if you don’t need to rush into surgery and medication to feel better? We have been trained as a society to reach for some of the worst things for us to feel better but it is not the only answer. For example, when you have a headache I bet the first thing you think to reach for is some Advil? That is due to years of great marketing from, but we never stopped to think if it is actually what is best for us in the long run.
There is Another Way
We never stopped and thought what if there is another way? The truth is that there is another way. If you have a headache, you can start by making sure that you are hydrated. Water is probably free for you! Advil would not want you to know that though because if everyone followed that they would be out of business. The second thing you can do is get a massage. A lot of people get headaches from muscle tension in the upper back and neck. An excellent hour-long massage can do wonders for relieving stress and improving blood flow. Both are natural and in the long run, will do your body and health much better.
Open Your Eyes to Alternative Medicine
I am starting to understand the type of corruption that currently exists in health care. I think a lot of people have been told that chiropractors are crazy, and that massage therapists are just for sexual activity to make people rely more on a broken system. Instead of going to rehab a back injury for $1,000 of treatment visits, people pay $100,000 for a back surgery that will limit their movement and activity for life. That is a losing scenario for the people, but it is a win for the doctors and health care system that get paid this money. You need to open your eyes to do things naturally as possible. Now I don’t think that all surgery is bad, BUT it should be the LAST resort. Surgery is never the first option.
Alternative Medicine is Not for Crazy People
Going to get an adjustment from a chiropractor, getting acupuncture, or seeing a PT that is not just about insurance billing is not for crazy people. It is for people who care about their long-term healthy. Personally, I find it to be a red flag when someone only cares that I have insurance and then they rush me out of my treatment. The reason some bad therapists do this is that they want to see as many people in one day so they can make the most amount of money. If you have insurance, they can charge more, and in reality, they care less about getting you healthy and more about making sure you have a reason to come back. Going to the hospital for anything will almost always lead to them giving you a prescription. Hospitals never want you to use your diet as a prescription because that means that you won’t rely on them as much. It means that instead of loading up on drugs, you put together a cocktail of fruits and veggies. Again I am not saying that all medication is bad, but we have fallen in love with quick fixes. Instead of making the change that will help us the most in the long run. We just want to do the thing that will give us the quick fix. The quick fix is drugs and surgery, the long-term fix is diet change and living a healthier lifestyle.
Pain Does Not Have to Be Your Story
The amount of people living in chronic pain on a daily basis that have no idea what many of these therapists can do is unreal. That is personally why I love Kho. It is giving people answers from people who understand the body well. The reason it is incredible to work in the athlete community even if you are not one is that athletes are always getting hurt and looking for the best way to get back in the game quickly. Athletes avoid surgeries like the plague because it creates too much time off. Most athletes know that there is a solution for all pain. It does not matter what is hurting you; there is someone or something you can do to make that pain go away that go beyond just taking a painkiller. It kills me to see how many people who have just accepted pain as their story and a part of life. Pain is your bodies way of telling you that it is time to take action and do something different. Most people feel pain and want to live the same lifestyle, so they take medication to delay the problems.
Have a Long-Term Mindset
When you have a long-term mindset, it is always easy to make the right choices. If you are going to buy something, think of it will help your life in the long run or just feel good right now. Buying McDonald’s will help you now, buying veggies to make a stirfry will help you in the long term. The long-term mindset is what has been used over and over again to build successful lives. Surgery is appealing in the short run because it fixes your problem. In the long term, you have to deal with limited movement and mobility and the pain always eventually comes back. Going to see a PT and getting rehab is a long road, and it takes a long of work but in the end, you save a lot of money, and you can still live your life to the fullest. Thinking with a long-term mindset in everything that you do is one of the best things you can do to change your life
What Do You Do Next Time You Get Hurt?
The best place to start is on 9INE POINT. The reason is that the people on the app know how to point you in the best direction. They will not just say ice it and take Advil. Even if you are thinking about surgery, just ask first. It is free to do so, and it could save you a lot of money. Once you do that, actually take some action. When you do things naturally, it is going to take WAY more work on your end. Going back to the headache example. That person would have found a therapist, book an appointment, and start getting hydrated. Whereas the alternative just requires popping one pill.
Conclusion
The key here is that you only get one body in life and you want to make sure that you take care of that one. There are no re-dos or take backs when you have surgery and damage your body to that extent. Medication can become a crutch and a cover-up to more significant issues. It is always in your best interest to get to the cause of the problem. The typical healthcare system route of going to the hospital for drugs is not the only way. If that is the way you choose, that is ok! It is just essential that you know that there are other things that you can do.
