How in the world do you get people to know and care about what you are doing? This part can suck more than anything because you spent all of this time working hard on a project and you expect to release it to the world and just watch it blow up. It doesn’t go like that though; you quickly find out that people don’t share the same enthusiasm as you do. I am going to explain to you how to launch anything and get fans excited and ready to open their wallets. All athletes have the mindset needed to be an entrepreneur; now you just need the skills.
Get to Work
As soon as you start working on an idea, it is time to start promoting it. The earlier in the process that you can introduce people to a product, the more excited, they will be when it comes out. They will feel like they waited so long just to get their hands on it.
Too many people make a mistake in starting promotion a couple of weeks before the drop date. This does not give you an advantage at all because no one has been educated about what you are doing. These days with the Internet, buyers like to be educated about what they spend their money on. Instead of seeing what you are doing as promotion, look at it as education.
Tips to Early Education for Products to Come
- Don’t overdo it
- Pay attention to what people respond well to
- Increase volume of messages as you get closer to release date
- Don’t get it all away too early (talk more about this later)
Help More People
There is no better way to get people on your team than to help others without asking any questions. When you continuously go out of your way to help people, it is proven that people will naturally feel obligated to help you back. This does not mean just help people so that you can use them when you need them. It means genuinely adopt an attitude of love to help others. We started 9INE POINT with Instagram merely answering injury questions for free. Then we eventually turned the concept into an app.
Helping other people can come in so many forms, but it can also get people that much more excited to pay for your product. For example; I have been writing articles for the past five years now, and I have released over 500 of them. Over that time I have gained myself some fans of my work. If people enjoy the work that I offer for free, then they know the work that I charge for could be that much better.
Learn to Talk About Your Work Effectively
I have had previous projects and ventures that I was working on that; I could not explain to others for the life of me. This is quick to fail, and I will tell you why. If you work on something every day and you can’t explain it, how will any of your customer’s or prospects describe it to their networks?
You need to continually be thinking about how you will explain your product to different people. Maybe you won’t tell it to a man the same way you will a woman. You have to have your words down pat because the confidence will ooze off of you and help you gain a future customer.
Tease Them
When you begin to educate your audience about your product, it is always a bad idea to release too much information too quickly. Depending on the amount of time you have before release you want to publish more details slowly.
The truth is that even if someone does not want to support what someone is doing, everyone loves to be in the know of a situation. You have to give people a reason to keep checking your website. Leave them dying to know more information at the end of each week.
Always leave one last piece of information up your sleeve until launch day. It could be a new logo, a product feature or anything you want but it needs to be something big that makes people have to check to see. This overtime strategy will build excitement and help to open some wallets.
Make it Stand For Something
It is not enough to just have a company and aim to be ambitious these days. People want to support something that makes them feel good. This involves being more than just a business but standing for an idea.
When you can accomplish this, it is easier for people to support what you do because they believe in what you do. Doing this helps you stand out from the competition.
Attach Your Story
What is your story? How have you got to this point? When I was writing “Endure” I built the marketing of the story on what happened to me at the 2012 Olympics. It gave people an idea of the face behind the book, and that is what you want.
You want people to see the face behind the brand. For the same reason, people don’t like to follow brands on social media is the same reason people would instead buy from a person. We are people, we can relate to people. We can’t connect to a brand as well.
Make sure you tell your story and make sure you say it well. It can and will be the difference between someone just stopping by your web page, and someone is loving your webpage and telling their friends.
Diversify Your Social Media Channels
Wherever your target market is. You have to do your best to reach them. Social media is a great way to do this, but it is only one way to do it.
Great Channels for Spreading the Word
- YouTube
- Press Releases
- Blogs
- Referral Campaign
- Public Speaking
These are just some of the ways that you can do it. No one method will work best, but you do have to stick to the ways that are and have been working for you. The key to spreading any message is to find which message your audience wants to hear.
The other key is making all of these channels work together. You want to make each message slightly different but similar enough that it is always one voice.
It is now your turn to get creative. A lot of people read articles like this to find out exactly what another company did, but that is not what you need. You just need someone to show you which way is the right direction; then it is up to you to find your way there. Promotion is tough, but you will learn fast.
