Introduction
Heading 1
Do you remember the ping pong paddle that had a string attached to the center with a bouncy ball on the end of it? The goal was to make it bounce back off of the paddle repeatedly. Now, imagine the same concept except you are using your hands to make the ball bounce back out. This exercise was developed to improve a boxers reaction to an object coming back at them. The goal is to use your fists to pop the ball away from your body. You can incorporate some movement and dodge as well. This tool can be easily made from home using a tennis ball with some bungee cord and a headband. A cheap and simple tool that can help increase an athlete’s eye-hand coordination. You have to get into a rhythm with this tool, learning the way the ball bounces as well as how the strike moves the ball will help build a connection with the brain. The fear of the ball coming back at your face is also a motivating factor. Learning to see the ball’s movement is critical for helping athletes slow down a situation. Seeing a pass coming to you without freaking out bares some comparison here. Learning to relax and see movement before just reacting wildly. This tool is excellent for that.

Slip Bag Drill
Training with a slip bag was made famous by Mike Tyson, an infamous name in the sport of boxing. The purpose of the bag was to act like incoming punches that needed to be slipped, or dodged. For other athletes, they can use this tool to improve their ability to see something and react to it. It isn’t about getting punched or missing punches. It is about understanding an action and having the ability to respond the appropriate way. All of these drills that we are going through in the articles have a whole lot more to do with your brain than your body. It is about making the connections necessary to perform without thought on the field. There are not many other sports out there where the consequences for not reacting appropriately could mean going unconscious and having a nice little trip to the emergency room. Boxers need to be able to move and act without thought, and that takes a lot of training and practice to achieve that standing. First, of what is a slip bag, a slip bag is just a bag of sand or something with some weight to it attached to a string that and hung overhead. Make it so that the bottom of the bag is about even with your chin. That way it is like someone trying to hit you in your jaw. Now that you have the slip bag made and ready to go, all you have to do is push it and start getting your work done. At first, you’re going to want to make the arch it is swinging in small because the higher the push you give the slip bag, the faster it is going to come back. As the bag comes down toward your face you’re going to want to move your head to the side; the bag will then be coming back from behind you so you can then slip your head to the other side. Repeat this as many times as you can.As you gain confidence in your ability to react to the bag, then you can push the bag a little harder to make it move a bit faster.
